Teams’ and drivers’ titles for LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler in TCR Asia Series

16. October 2018 -

Success all the way: in the season finale of the TCR Asia Series at Shanghai International Circuit, LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler locked out the first three places in the final drivers’ standings and secured the title in the teams’ championship. Furthermore, the team claimed the Car Model of the Year award for Volkswagen. In the previous year, the team had also won the drivers’ and teams’ titles.

LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler dominated proceedings in the season finale at Shanghai. Luca Engstler had travelled to the showdown at Shanghai International Circuit as the leader in the championship standings. By finishing first in the two final races of the season he managed to decide the battle for the title in his favour. His teammate Mitchell Cheah finished second in both races and thus secured runner-up spot in the championship ahead of his teammate Diego Moran in third position.

With his TCR Asia Series title win, Luca Engstler follows in the footsteps of Kantadhee Kusiri, the winner of last year’s title, also with LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler. For Luca Engstler, this is already his second title after his victory in the TCR Middle East Series. In the ADAC TCR Germany, the 18-year-old German concluded the season as runner-up.

Luca Engstler: “I am more than happy and the team did an amazing job. We have worked hard for this success. Thanks to everyone who is supporting us and thanks to my teammates for the hard, but always fair season.”

Once again, there was also reason to celebrate in the teams’ classification: with a huge margin, LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler had already wrapped up the title early.

Kurt Treml, Sport Director LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler: “It was one of those days where everything just fell into place for us and for it to happen during the finale was incredible. The fact that we were able to secure victory in the teams’ classification and to lock out first to third place in the drivers’ standings is great. The success speaks for our entire team, our cars and the support from our partners.”
