Historic Victory for Mikel Azcona and CUPRA in PURE ETCR

28. June 2021 -

Mikel Azcona secured a history-making victory in the PURE ETCR Race IT that made him the first winner of an all-electric, multi-brand touring car race. The Spaniard driving for the Zengo Motorsport X CUPRA team was crowned “King of the Weekend” at Vallelunga after he had triumphed in Rounds 1 and 2 on Saturday and in Superfinal A with PAGID Racing brake performance. He ended the weekend on 77 points – the maximum total possible. Third place overall for his teammate Mattias Ekström rounded out a very successful weekend for CUPRA.

PURE ETCR is the world’s first all-electric touring car series giving the brands the chance to fight for an official Manufacturers’ title for the first time. All CUPRA e-Racer cars competing in the new series are equipped with PAGID Racing brake pads and discs. The technical concept set out by TCR creators WSC Group aims at showing off the most extraordinary performance elements of the world’s fastest-accelerating touring cars and creating exciting on-track battles.

Xabier Ugarte, Chief Engineer PAGID Racing: “Congratulations to the entire CUPRA team on this outstanding performance and the historic victory in the PURE ETCR! We at PAGID Racing are proud to be technical partner of CUPRA Racing in this new format of racing. Thank you to all PAGID Racing team members who contributed with their hard work to this success. We are already looking forward to the next events.”

PURE ETCR moves on to MotorLand Aragón (9-11 July) for its second event with CUPRA leading the Manufacturers’ standings and Mikel Azcona leading the Drivers’ standings.
